The happiest blog on Earth
Hello my Disnerds!
Sorry about the delay, I have been writing for the Grady Games 2015 and I've been super busy! Anyway, I realize that this entire blog is supposed to be about Disney, but recently I have been diving into the world of animated shorts (specifically other than Disney/Pixar's), and have found so many that I've fallen in love with, so I wanted to share them here. Many evoke the same cuteness or intrigue as the Pixar shorts we are so accustomed to. Check them out! 1. "Jinxy Jenkins and Lucky Lou" by Michael Bidinger and Michelle Kwon of the Ringling College of Art and Design: This one reminds me powerfully of the Pixar short "Paperman", with it's adorable love story and gorgeous animation. Super quick and cute!
2. "The Alchemist's Letter" by Carlos Andre Stevens: Absolutely stunning animation and a tug-on-your-heartstrings story (with narration by John Hurt!) come together in this short film about recognizing the power of family and love.

3. "L3.0" by the Isart Digital School: Starts off with a very futuristic and Wall-E quality about, and then tumbles down into a ginormous plot twist! Very cool to see 3D animation mixed with live-action shots, and I'm still not over the ending!

4. "The Reward" by The Animation Workshop: This eccentric and wordless short film's adventure brings to mind such movies as Up, The Emperor's New Groove, and even the rare Dreamworks hit Road to El Dorado. The animation is reminiscent of shows like Adventure Time, which, I must admit, is not my favorite type of animation, but it is still quite easy on the eyes. A wonderful and exciting nine minute film. Beware of some gore!
5. "Lego Adventure in the City" by Roger Wieland: Oh my goodness this is too cute! Made for the Lego China advertising campaign, this short revolves around a young boy and his legos. Furthermore, it's animated in stop motion, which must have been agonizing to film so color me impressed!
6. "The Saga of Biorn" by many animators that would take too long to list: Now I'm a sucker for anything Norse mythology-themed, and this one really hit the mark! The story of a Viking who longs to gain entrance to Valhalla, the Viking heaven, by dying gracefully in battle but just can't seem to find a worthy opponent. Very funny (the end is fantastic!) and nice animation.
7. "Deathigner" by students of the National Taiwan University of Arts: With a storyline reminiscent of a Pixar short (maybe some Tim Burton thrown in!) and animation to die for (pun definitely intended), "Deathigner" is an adorable triumph in short films. The mythological references and attention to detail are impressive, and the emotions will kill you (alright, I'll stop). So cute!
8. "La Dama y La Muerte (The Lady and the Reaper)" by Javier Recio Gracia: Another short film about death, "La Dama y La Muerte" is comical and almost bittersweet all packed into one. It plays with many familiar animated tropes while presenting the story of an old woman who is ready to die to be with her late husband. Little does she know, a meddling doctor won't let her go. The short film was nominated for an Academy Award (Best Animated Short Film) in 2009, and showcases eccentric 3D animation sure to please.
